Visit the Guinness Storehouse

A must-see attraction while in Dublin! The Guinness Storehouse is so much more than a merchandise store. The seven-floor old fermentation plant at the heart of St James’ Gate Brewery tells the tale of Ireland’s most famous beer. The experience starts off at the beginning of the brand, going back 250 years, and the tour ends at their spectacular rooftop bar with a complimentary pint of Guinness and an amazing view over Dublin!

Have a drink in Temple Bar

Temple Bar is arguably one of the most famous bars in Ireland. It has been in operation since 1840 and today it houses the biggest bar collection of whiskies in Ireland. I would highly recommend stepping by for a pint and soaking in the traditional ambience and Irish charm.

Visit the old Jameson Distillery on Bow Street

The Jameson Distillery at Bow Street is another popular tourist attraction. It is the original site where the Irish Whiskey Jameson was distilled until 1971. Today it houses a tour of the facilities including a tasting of different Jameson whiskeys. You can even just stop by the bar on the ground floor.

Explore the grounds of Trinity College

Trinity College is a beautiful campus located in Dublin. It also houses the Book of Kells, one of Ireland’s greatest cultural treasures in their old library. The library in it self is worth the visit looking as though it might be picked right out of Hogwarts.

Take a day tour to Northern Ireland

Going on a day tour and discovering surrounding areas is one of my favourite things to do when visiting a destination, especially when visiting cities. To get out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre and explore a more remote location and maybe see some of the country’s landscape and learn what more it has to offer. Stopping by small towns often offers a different culture than the cities and is well worth a visit. We went on a day trip to Northern Ireland and the Giants Causeway when visiting Ireland but you can also join day tours to the famous west coast or Belfast.

Get lost in the streets

Remember to make time to just wander the streets and take in the atmosphere! This is sometimes the best way to explore a new destination and find hidden treasures. When travelling I usually just pinpoint the general direction of something I want to see and stroll around as I see fit and let the streets take me where they please.

Step back in history at Kilmainham Gaol prison

This former prison was one of my favourite experiences in Dublin. Back in the day, it housed many Irish revolutionaries including the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising. It was in operation for more than 100 years and has been involved in some of the most momentous events in the history of Ireland. Today it works as a museum that will take you through time and let you discover the histories of some of these inmates that shaped the country into what it is today. Remember you can only gain access to the prison through guided tours so remember to book in advance.

Enjoy a pub meal

Sampling the local food and drink is a must-do when visiting any destination. My go-to meals when visiting Ireland and the United Kingdom are pub meals! There is nothing quite like the atmosphere in pubs around the British Isles and Ireland.

Meet the locals in Phoenix park

Phoenix Park is located right outside of the city centre and is a large urban park housing sporting sites, the zoo and a herd of deer! It is one of the largest enclosed parks in any capital city in Europe and is the perfect opportunity to take a break from the city. Originally formed as a royal hunting park in the 1660s and opened to the public in 1747. A herd of wild deer still remain on the ground to this day.
