Australasia: Made up of Australia and New Zealand, including their neighboring islands. This part of the continent is easy to explore and English is widely the spoken language. There are also frequent flights to take your from one destination to another. This region is home to popular attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef which features some of the most beautiful scuba diving conditions in the world. New Zealand is also known world wide for their Lord of the Rings filming locations.

Melanesia: The island groups of New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Soloman Islands located north of Australia are known for their rich history, unique cultures and breathtaking exotic landscapes.

Micronesia: This region includes some of the more remote islands and countries such as the Marshall Islands, Kiribati and Nauru. These are some of the most untouched destinations in the world with english as a spoken language and US dollars is generally accepted.

Polynesia: Even though this is the most far-flung destination in Oceania, it is also one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Known for islands such as Bora Bora, Tahiti and the Easter Island it’s not weird that this region attracts hundreds of visitors each year. Also here English is widely spoken as well as French and Spanish.

The best time to visit Oceania is usually in the winter time, between April and August. Even though this is considered winter time the temperature still runs pretty high. This is also the time where the thunderstorms are infrequent, however you may encounter these tropical cyclones at any time of the year.

November to March is typically considered as the cyclone season for Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and the other islands in the South Pacific. Make sure to check the weather reports closing up on your trip and keep your travel insurance handy if you need to cancel your trip because of natural disasters.

Oceania is also a great continent to go whale watching. If you want to include this on your trip make sure to plan it between July and October. For other outdoors activities such as hiking or biking August will be your go-to month.
