The most iconic animals in Norway are shy and elusive creatures that keep to themselves deep in the Norwegian wilderness. With long stretches of forest, coastline and mountains as well as both southern and arctic elements the nature in Norway is vast. When people imagine the deep and mysterious Norwegian forests they often think of predatory animals such as bears, wolves, wolverines and the lynx. These are among the most elusive creatures you will find in Norway and the chances to experience these animals in their rightful habitat is slim. However, you can find them in parks around the country. One of the most educational parks that also let you get up close and personal with a lot of these animals is Langedrag.

Langedrag Nature Park

Langedrag Nature Park is located in Tunhovd outside of Nesbyen and is situated 1000 meters above sea level giving it a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. The goal of the park is to allow people to gain knowledge about ecology, nature and animals as well as experience the animals up close. On the farm, a lot of the domestic animals walk freely around the visitors and you can also get up close and personal with some of the wild animals such as wolves, lynx, arctic foxes, moose and reindeers.

Getting up close and personal with these elusive creatures is an experience of a lifetime. You get to experience their natural behaviour and experience how they act around humans.

The wolves, known as top apex predators and often portrayed as villains, are shy around humans and even though these animals see people every day they are still scared and sceptical when you enter their enclosure. They will keep a safe distance and can only be lured closer with treats. The lynx on the other hand, even though often portrayed as ghostly and elusive, has a more curious personality and may even stroke past your legs!
