What to Expect
Northern Europe: Northern Europe is made up of the nations; Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland) is probably mostly known for the Northern Lights. If you want to catch this natural phenomena you’ll need to visit during the winter time. A fun fact is that if you go far enough north you’ll experience midnight sun during the summertime, meaning it will never get dark and during the winter months there will be no sunlight.
Eastern Europe: The Eastern region of Europe often refers to the nations that were behind the Iron Curtain. It’s made up of the nations; Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine. Generally these are cheaper destinations and perfect if you’re looking for a budget friendly holiday. The rich history offers plenty of historical sites to explore such as Prague Castle, Auschwitz and countless museums.
Western Europe: This region makes up some of the most popular destinations in Europe such as; Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. These destinations attracts million of tourists every year. Some of the most popular attractions include; the Eiffel Tower, the Alps, the Louvre and the Lichtenstein Castle.
Southern Europe: Southern Europe is the part closest to the Mediterranean sea. This part of Europe is known for the beautiful beaches, sailing, natural wonders and ancient sites. Some of the most popular destinations include; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Malta, Montenegro and Spain.
Travel Guides
Europe is a unique destination no matter the time of the year and every season has its perks.
The busiest time in Europe is the summer months, June to August. Travellers from all over the world come together during these months to soak up the good weather and explore the bustling European culture. If you are planning a trip to Europe during these months I would recommend getting your tickets as much in advance as you possibly can as flights and even budget airlines can triple in price!
If you’re looking for cheap flights and hotels for your backpacking trip through Europe you’re better off travelling in the offseason, from November to March.
Winter in Europe should be on your bucket list. Whether you want to enjoy a cup of mulled wine while window shopping in the German Christmas Markets or prefer a more active holiday skiing in the Alps, winter in Europe has something to offer for everyone.
